"Spider webs attached from tree to tree glimmered under the sun in the coffee farms of Takengon. The presence of spiders, referred to in Indonesia as laba-labas, is a tell-tale sign that no chemical fertilizer was applied on the plants. Some of the coffee plants in the area are over 50 years old. Despite their age they are still producing three harvests of coffee a year. Among the coffee trees grow persimmons, vanilla, hot chili peppers, ginger and other fruits and spices."
